Decisions clients could explain to themselves

Client accounts of German job offer comparisons, contract reviews and negotiation preparation.

A salary difference put in context

“I had focused on the €6,000 salary difference. Mara pointed out that the first offer’s bonus was discretionary, while the second had a defined target and a shorter notice period. I still chose the higher base salary, but with much clearer eyes.”

The clause that needed one more email

“The review caught that the remote-work policy I had discussed was not referenced in the contract. I asked HR to attach the policy before signing. The call was dense and I needed to reread the notes afterward, but that was preferable to an oversimplified answer.”

Amira, clinical research, Hamburg — Contract Clarity Review

A counterproposal without theatre

“I did not want an aggressive script. We worked out one salary request, one alternative around the review date, and a calm explanation based on the role. The company declined the salary but put the six-month review in writing.”

Case note: relocation versus flexibility

Elena was choosing between a Munich role with relocation support and a lower-paid position that allowed her to remain in Cologne. The comparison included rent assumptions, commuting expectations, probation exposure and the wording of each remote-work arrangement. No single figure settled the matter. Her deciding factor was that one employer treated remote work as a revocable policy while the other placed two home-office days in the contract.

She asked both employers the same three clarification questions, then accepted the Cologne offer. The value of the consultation was not a higher nominal package; it was distinguishing a contractual condition from a manager’s present intention.
